Ok, life is nuts over at the Sanderson household.. I mean INSANE. Crying children, phones ringing, a RIVER of emails, new gallery construction, cheese and crackers for lunches, BILLIONS of photos to edit and print and upload and burn and bind and on and on and on... is goes. Seriously.. no time for blogging, showering, mowing, laundry, cooking... sleeping.

But we do have time for 1 thing. See the video.

On a quiet afternoon as the dark clouds covered up the sunlight, one thing could not be daunted—the undeniable excitement, love, and admiration between Lynne and Eric. The peaceful, joyous looks on their faces told all that this was the day they had been waiting for. A beautiful and spiritual ceremony followed by the blissful celebration among friends and family completed the absolutely perfect day. And the rain that threatened the sun ended up making some beautiful pictures with umbrellas. Congratulations Lynne and Eric! Participating in your day was truly a pleasure.

Definitively unique in their flip-flopped elegance, this wedding was the perfect combination of meaningful and fun from start to finish! We did get a little rain at the beginning, but by the time the ceremony started the sun was shining bright. It was such a wonderful day as Tucker, Allison, friends and family laughed, cried, and celebrated life together! The love spread among this tightly-knit group of family and friends was obvious to all. Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to be a part of your special day!

Baby #1...my adorable nephew, Tobias...

Baby #2...little Noah, our 3 year old bundle of exuberance has a new "baby" found in the pool this morning...

Baby #3...in an effort to stay at the top of our game creatively, we have a new LensBaby!. OK, so waaaaay back in April, Kim and I went to Long Island to shoot this awesome wedding. I really enjoyed myself because I got to know Patrick over the phone most of the year and it was nice to finally get to photograph his wedding. This is a message to all you future grooms out there, it is possible to help plan parts of the wedding... Choose a good photographer! ha! No really, Patrick was a cut above. And seriously people, could Tana be any more beautiful or well poised? She was so elegant!

These two were so in love! When that happens Kim and I have an easy job. Getting good photos of them was so fun and we hardly had to offer any direction at all. What you see in these photos is just their love shining through. They were so comfortable around each other that photography was a breeze. The entire day was packed with beautiful things and happy people. The lighting was fun and different as well. I hope we get to shoot at this location again.. We love NY Vineyard country.

Yes.. their last name were Sun and Cloud. How did we end up with Sanderson? That'd be a weird cookie.

What a fabulous April wedding. (yes, April, we're so behind on blogging weddings it's crazy) Anyway, this one was full of love, life and special surprises. Kim and I were so honored to be there and to see people from all over the globe come to witness this special occasion. They were married in Charlottesville in a quaint little church.. but the party was held at the awesome Reception Hall at Kings Family Vineyards and Polo Ranch.

The details were so cool from the Lanterns to the Lemonade we had so much fun capturing every detail.

I loved this church.. Lots of light. Intimate.

Both Ping and Mike were very emotional.. I felt bad cause I went shutter crazy on these moments. I don't think they noticed.

Ah yes. It has been quite awhile. We are still here! We are buried in the mound of wonderful weddings that we have captured in the past couple of months. We are soooo excited to share them with you....we have been busy busy busy. In June alone we shot weddings in Colorado, West Virginia, Virginia, Colorado again, and Rhode Island. Whew. It was a long and crazy month full of packing and repacking and planes and long car trips. We have finally settled into some semblance of normalcy and we are trying to catch up on lovely things like blogs. Stay tuned for some images!

Fatherhood... It's ultimate.

A long time ago it was hard to imagine being a father, now I can't imagine it any other way. I feel ridiculously blessed by my children and particularly challenged to be the best father I can to them. 1st off, let me point out that I have no idea how to do this, but as I stumble through these years in what feels to me a reckless attempt at providing with a selfish plan to stay at home with them, I can't help but feel an overpowering sense of joy and accomplishment as we pass each milestone.

"Fatherhood" it's a mystical and curious thing to me, I feel convicted by the term, and not only just to be one to my children. I believe that as a man I am responsible to be a father figure to all the children I come across.. especially boys. Boys need their dads, every decision I make as a dad gets sent through the "what would my dad have done filter" in my mind. Its amazing to me what he was able to accomplish with my sisters and I, my mind is filled with moments when my dad helped define us, I think about them everyday. Its crazy to finally walk in his shoe...God was I oblivious to his love and sacrifices. I did notice some things though, I always noticed his strength, his work, his humor and his intelligence. I hope that even though I may spend my days photographing girls in white dresses, that my sons will somehow experience the same thing... especially the pride.

Boys need this... not all boys have fathers though. This is painfully sad to me and has helped me realize that as a man, we have a responsibility to all boys to be a "father figure". Men, if you have children.. or not. Think about the children in your life, odds are there are quite a few. Take notice of them, because they take notice of you. Give them a good filter by which to guide them through what looks like a challenging future for our kiddos. Sounds hard... but it's ultimate.

Pool Time. Get wet. Have fun. Repeat.

Today we opened the pool. It's old and nothing fancy.. just a regular backyard pool. But to the kids.. its full on luxury. In the past week I have dumped quite the investment into getting the darn thing to sparkle and be safe. What next? You say pool party? Bring it.

Congratulations to both couples! What a great weekend! Photographing back-to-back weddings in the same weekend was no easy task, but all the hard work really paid off. From bridal portraits on the beach to family brunches to two first-class celebrations at incredibly beautiful venues, these guys knew how to make memories that last a lifetime. Thanks so much to Walt, Gretchen, Jake, Maggie, and their families and friends! You guys were a delight to work with; we had so much fun! I also want to give a special thanks to Carl Zoch for flying in from Oklahoma to shoot the event with me. Ok, I'm willing to bet our daughter is the cutest child on Earth. Take a look for yourself. Lilli had a very fun birthday. She got a new Kitchen and all the boys were more than willing to help her open presents. Like a true girly girl... she tried on all her new clothes with much excitement. Cake was fun, she blew out two candles on her first try. We're proud parents. Such a cutie pie.

Meet Eric and Katia. Another great spring wedding and a lot of fun with such a unique and beautiful couple. Katia is from Russia and Eric.. well he's a Marine. These two brought together a unique mix of friends, family and traditions into a wonder evening of dancing and fun. Eric gets shipped off soon and I wish both of them all the best. I can't believe I never posted this one! This was an amazing wedding back in September 07 and we absolutely love these guys. Honestly I hope we get to hang out again soon! I'll tell you what, this wedding was beautiful, lots of love, emotion, fun, music and friends. Everything went so well. The photos were perfect. Kim and I really hope these two are doing well but we are not worried too much, one thing we know for sure is, these two have a rare and beautiful love for each other.

We are happy to announce a new venture by Sanderson Images....lifestyle portraits! This has been a dream of ours to open up this side of our business for a long time and weddings have kept us so busy that we just haven't had time to venture in that direction.
Now we are so excited to share with you our first lifestyle blog post capturing a few hours of life with the Weaver family. We firmly believe that the memories captured should not be contrived, but real memories. The cozy quietness of reading together, the proud look of accomplishment when those blocks are "just so", the silliness during snack time, the joys in everyday moments....these are what we miss when the kids are grown, these are the moments we will reflect on...these are the moments we will freeze for you.

We expect to launch a new web site soon for our new lifestyle portrait business. Stay tuned!

Ok so Kim and I are ready for spring but the kids never got to have much fun in the snow this winter because old man winter never showed up to give us some snow. Jerk. Ok, I guess he showed up once and we got out all the sledding stuff and had some fun on the hill in our backyard. The snow melted the next day but for the past month the kids have been reliving those memories by making lemonade out of lemons (see picture below). Who needs snow, right? Anyway, we think our kids are cute and so we plan to subject you to pictures of them often. We have lots of family from far far away that miss them, so if it's not for you, it's for them. Enjoy.

Si ~ {Music Recommendation} Sufjan Stevens.

Meet Sufjan Stevens. I'm a little obsessed with his music. I'll admit I enjoy his style so much I listen to his Christmas album year round. Yikes. I am a fan of any acoustic style of music and folky sounds, but what really pulls me in is great lyrics haunting melodies and an interesting mixture instruments. Sufjan and his band combines the banjo, piano, guitar, strings, percussion, and horns to make a very unique symphonic sound. He can go from cheerful to dark, fast to slow and weepy in the blink of an eye So I admit because I pretty much never stop listening to him, my recommendation to listen to his music is about as good as asking a groupie, what they think. Duh.

So yeah, check him out. You either love him or you hate him. So don't hate me if you don't love him. Kimberly can sympathize with you. ;) I just needed to vent some of my obsession.

The first 45 minutes...

I spent with Dave Williams, the president of DVideography in Philly, voted one of the 25 most influential videographers in the industry! (And new friend of Sanderson Images.) Dave and I are working together on a little video about our work. It should be fun and very artistic, I can't wait to share it. Dave's work is award winning and spectacular. I highly recommend his services for both Weddings and Corporate needs. Check out his site.

Live from New Hampshire it's Saturday Night!

Kimberly and I embarked on a brave adventure this week. Skiing, eating, vacationing, and talking shop with some of the best married wedding photographers in New England. These are great folks that we have come to enjoy and we are happy to introduce you to them.

Enna and Matt Grazier - Grazier Photography of Boston. These two are pictage forum friends that we got to know by sharing experiences with. As the creators of the "Grazier Ski Trip" we have them to thank for all the fun and learning we have had this week. Don't be fooled by Matt and His Gangsta style.. he's soft and fluffy on the inside. Kim and I are extremely fond of Matt and Enna and really look to them for guidance and knowledge in all aspects of life and business. In many ways we are cut from the same cloth.

Justin and Mary - Justin Marantz Photography of Connecticut. These two are taking a break from their PUG tour and are all the buzz in the wedding photography industry, we loved meeting them. Their ideas are revolutionary to the industry, if your a photographer you MUST go see them talk at your local PUG. Justin learned to ski this week but totally ripped it up out there.. he was skiing the BLUE runs!!... kind of against his will. eek. I hope he forgives the rest of us for that one. I have a feeling we will be getting to know them even more in the future.

Andy and Christine - Bello Photography of Boston. We met these two a day late and kicked things off by pushing their car up 200 yards of steep icy snow to get to the house. We have kinship now. We enjoyed getting to know them and hear some of their experiences.

Larry and Tabitha - Sherrell Portrait Design of Cape Cod. Kim and I seemed to have some striking similarities to these guys. We enjoyed their presence and spent lots of time laughing and even crying a little together. We hope to see them again soon.

And of course us... John and Kimberly

Over the past week we have really enjoyed these new friends and the openness they have about their lives and their businesses. We have truly inspired each other for this summer and had a lot of fun skiing, playing games and eating good food. We only wished we lived closer to them all and we really look forward to doing it all again next year. This was a vacation to remember! It was the first vacation we have had without the kids in 4 years! Woooo Hoooo! Oddly enough though, we miss them.
