The Birds Came Today.

Today was the day the blackbirds came. I could hear them from inside my home. The sky was black with them.. and when they were not flying they were thick on the ground like a carpet. Sometimes they can be seen weighing down the limbs of trees.
This is a large congregation of all sorts of blackbirds. They spend the winter together around here by the millions. Yes Millions. In the summer they are quite independent. But in the winter apparently they need company.
I ran outside this morning with my camera and a 200mm lens hoping to capture them and somehow show their numbers. I made my favorite shots into some art that I think you will enjoy. These pictures have a sort of dark winter feeling.. which is the feeling I get this time of year when surrounded by millions of them.
If you would like a signed print let me know.

Can you see the flock of migrating geese in the background?

This is one of the culprits up close.

Now, this is art! Realism with the barn and abstract with the geese. Put these on canvas.
Wow, those are beatiful! Love your image on the top too!
OMG those are BEAUTIFUL! the top (first) one and the third one, with texture, are my favorites. I have a wall in my guest bedroom that is decorated with signed photographs from talented photographers I meet along the way; want to trade me a diptych of the birds for one of my watercolors (a bike in Telluride, Colorado or the Washington monument in D.C.)? :)
John, these images are really stunning. I mean REALLY stunning.
I've enjoyed viewing your work over the last few months. Can't wait to see more!
These are so cool!! Great job with the post process - the textures look great on these images!

Right On John. Great images! Makes me think about growing up near my dad's when he lived in Westminster MD, not that far from the PA line. I loved the barns and country feel. Hope you're enjoying your new home. Hope Kim and the kids are well.
Any chance we'll get to meet out at WPPI? Are you going?
Wow, interesting. Now that is something you don't see everyday!
