The Burkholders, Family Lifestyle and Baby Session.

005

The Burkholders are some friends of ours from church. They recently had a new addition enter their family. Meet Makenna Raine, she is a beautiful baby girl. We got to spend a fun evening with this lovely family taking pictures and I think we captured some moments that describe them well. Our vision for this session was to provide a valuable snapshot into their lives, capture their lifestyle and also take some creative portraits of Makenna. It will be fun watching this family grow. We hope you enjoy these pictures, if you do, leave a comment.

And of course by subscribing you can receive fun posts like this in your email.

Shout Out: Shawn Reeder: If you don't know him, you should.

catching_up-1002

Name: Shawn Reeder
Occupation: Landscape/wedding photographer
Location: Bishop, CA (Near Yosemite National Park)
Blog-site/music sales: http://www.shawnreeder.net
Online photo sales site: http://shawnreederphotography.com

Why he is cool:
Shawn lives a simple life surrounded by the outdoors and spends more time outside than inside. His lifestyle is respectful to nature and honors the wilderness with everything he does. To make things even more exciting he always has a camera and he captures the world wherever he goes. You should go check out his work (if you need wall art....we highly recommend his landscapes!) and if you want to get to know somebody worthwhile you should drop him a note to say hi.. he'd be totally into that. In addition to spending time outside taking amazing photos, he spends his indoor time making awesome and inspiring music for corporate and royalty free use which is very popular among photographers for slideshows. His music site features other talented artists as well. Shawn, like us, pays the bills with wedding and portrait photography.

How we met:
We were first introduced to Shawn through the Pictage User Forums, an excellent resource for photographers. As anybody who meets Shawn does, we became very intrigued by his work, his gentle nature, his encouragement for those around him and his obvious caring attitude. This December he came out to MD to visit his parents and during that time, he came up to Lancaster for an entire day to hang out with us. We really enjoyed having him up here and we look forward to spending much more time with him in the future.

Get to know him! In Shawn, we have found a great friendship, a talented peer always ready to talk, whether it be about business or just life in general, and a gentle soul who will most definitely lift your spirits!

Here is some of his recent landscape work:

Lauren and Mark Engagement session. Inspired.

Meet Lauren and Mark, two really cute kids we get to work with this summer referred to us from one of our favorite clients ever. They are planning a wonderful wedding near Pittsburgh, PA. You also need to check out Lauren's blog "Bride and Blog". She is a great writer! I really went into this engagement session inspired, so we worked on making some new and different style engagement photos. We really had fun and the fact that these two are so comfortable around each other and obviously in love made this session an artistic dream. I love it when moments and beautiful scenes come together so well.

We can't wait to see what the future holds for these guys!

Sandersons 101

It has come to our attention recently that our new clients and our soon to be clients don't know very much about us. We have gotten a few emails that make us feel like we are giving out a large company/corporate feel. That took us aback a bit and we realize that although we send our clients getting to know you sheets and make an effort to learn about you before your big day...we don't extend you the same courtesy about us! Soooo... we are starting a new section called Sandersons 101 that we will try to update frequently since we would like you to get to know us as much as we would love to know you!

First Installment written by Kimberly:

We are a family of 5 and we live in Lancaster, PA. We live on a road that consists mainly of us, my sister (yay!!), our brother-in-law's family, and a bunch of amazing Amish folks. Yep, we are surrounded by farms and all the lovely smells that come with them. We have lived here for about a year and we love it so far. Many of the photos below were taken today on the street that we live...that will give you all a visual placement of our home.

John and I run the business by ourselves and also run the household by ourselves. By that I mean, we don't have secretaries and nanny's and cleaning people. It's just us and that is the way we love it right now. We may be getting an intern or two soon and we will welcome them into our little chaotic lives with open arms.

Our kiddos are an amazing part of what makes up John and I. They shape who we are and teach us a little something about life everyday. They are what always comes first, what we live for, who we can't wait to see in the morning, what keeps us awake at night (in more ways than one!) and what keeps us giggling during the day. This first blog post will be mainly about them....stay tuned for more about John+Kimberly in a future post.

Meet Lillianna: She is beautiful, stubborn, feisty, silly, and girly. She loves pink, her "lovies", painting, and cuddling. She can't get enough of her Daddy and she loves to oppose Mommy. She is a firecracker and has a quick temper. She also recovers well and is quick to apologize. She loves to tell jokes and be goofy. We love every inch of this girl. Lillianna is 2.

Meet Noah: Noah is joy and energy all bundled up into one super cute little package. He is always happy and always trying to make others around him happy. He is a terrible sleeper and has quite the sweet tooth. Red peppers are his favorite food. Every morning he makes his Daddy a cup of coffee and is so super proud. He is crazy smart and is already starting to read a little. We pray with him for patience a LOT! Noah is 4.

Meet Gabriel: Gabriel is sweet and sensitive. If you are his friend, you are his friend for life...he is loyal through and through. He is a perfectionist and an incredible reader. He is one of the tallest in his class. Gabriel is protective of his brother and sister and loves to "explain" things to them they haven't yet experienced. He loves playing outside and considers himself "so super fast!" Gabriel loves science and space and anything that flies. He is a miniature John. Gabriel is 6.

Our new Gallery Wrapped Canvas display & sale... Act now!

Untitled-1

Recently the Sandersons practiced what they preach and had some family photos taken. This was a HUGE deal for us because we are lousy at choosing pictures for our walls, so we had our friend and amazing photographer Carl Zoch from Oklahoma City, OK (who was out here for the inauguration) do some portraits of us at Glen Echo Park in Bethesda, MD. You should go to his blog and check out the slideshow of all of them...he caught some hilarious moments! We were so excited to be on the receiving end of photography for once. We had a lot of fun, and he captured our family as we are and ended up getting some really cool shots!

We decided immortalize the moments by having a few of our favorites stretched on canvas. And let me tell ya, they are beautiful. We are convinced that this is the ultimate way to display photographs. Durable, clear, simple. We LOVE them. The investment was totally worth it. What a great way to celebrate the people you love most in the world!

To celebrate how excited we are about our family's collection of canvas', we are going to extend our recent canvas sale. We would love for all of our clients to have a canvas of their own!! Take 20% off any size canvas. Measure that empty wall, we can do any size, even custom. But wait... act now and you can also take 30% off two and 40% off of three or more. Wow. (ok enough with the infommercial talk)

We are also happy to add this to any current 2009 client packages.

This deal will expire on February 25th. Act now! We swear these canvas' will cut right through a rock! (sorry, I swear I'm done infommercial talking)

Sarah and Eric, Aspen Destination.

0001_Grace

Ok so where were we.. Oh yeah, JUNE! yes. Still blogging June 2008 weddings. Next on the list, Sarah and Eric. Sarah and Eric were married in Aspen Colorado at the Aspen Meadows. Every detail of this wedding was excellent. The best part was the totally laid back personalities of these two. We pretty much just went out and had fun. This trip to Colorado strengthened our resolve to start shooting more Colorado resort weddings. The color, weather and crisp mountain air (not to mention tons of lovely family!).. everything about shooting in Colorado is different. It's a great addition to our style and we hope to do many more. We also hope we get a chance to visit these guys again someday. (and if you are ever in Aspen I recommend visiting their shop in Downtown Aspen called The Gallerie.)

Family Day at the Philadelphia "Please Touch Children's Museum".

museum(0001)-8

Today was a Family Day (!), which is actually a rare occurrence on a Saturday. We decided to visit the Please Touch Children's Museum in Philadelphia. The place was an insane mob, pandemonium everywhere, a total nightmare... for adults. The kids however could care less. We decided to let them wear these cool new capes Grandma got them for Christmas this year, which made it so much easier to find them in the sea of children. This place was totally fun, lots of exhibits and stuff for the kids to enjoy. We are a little disappointed about some of the obviously corporately sponsored exhibits like McDonalds, can anybody tell me what a kid can learn at a fake McDonalds? On the bright side the fake food appeared to be a little bit healthier despite the one billion kids (and their germs) whom I'm sure pretended to eat them.

I totally recommend the place, just don't go on Saturday.

Noah, you're a smarty but you can't talk your way out of time out.

At the end of the day we stole an idea from my amazing sister (who is a superMommy!) and we all made a family art puzzle. Can you guess whose piece is whose?

Recent family portraits! Winter 08-09.

We thought we would blog a few of our favorite recent family portraits. We had so much fun with these couples, cute kids, great moments. It might be the middle of winter but you can have some great family photos taken! It's not about what you look like, its not about where you are or even the weather, and it is definitely not about saying cheese. It's about who you are, it's about your life. Everyday your family takes part in regular routines you'll wish you could remember in 20 years, and we believe every part of your family is a story worth telling, worth remembering. So, let's immortalize the goldfish disasters at snack time, that priceless face during bath time, the muddy sneakers, that crazy hairdo and that typical 14 year old attitude. Get the family together, you think of something fun to do or just stay in the home and cuddle, either way let's go create some memories!

Currently we are offering a special on Winter family portrait packages. Contact us and subscribe above to see what is in the works.

Lola and Boladji in Punta Cana!

We had the honor of documenting a very special marriage in November. Lola and Boladji were married at the beautiful Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. It was truly awe inspiring to know that they were so loved that they had 80 guests fly from all over to witness their wedding day. 80!!! We soon found out why. Lola and Boladji both had such a calming and loving presence about them. It seemed throughout the week that they were more concerned that everyone was having a good time and being taken care of, (including us!) than thinking about their upcoming event. Thank you for that you guys! :-) We had so much fun getting to know you and your family! Thank you for including us in your day! We truly hope our paths cross again soon!

Find Your Beautiful!

(Warning! This post contains some sexy photos)

Get ready for something a little different...we at Sanderson Images are trying something new! Yay for new personal projects! As a woman, I am well aware of the pressure that society places on us to have perfect bodies and never feeling satisfied in our own skin. I am on a mission to change that! You are beautiful! I had so much fun shooting this and can't wait for my next chance to empower another woman! That may sound weird, but I believe that feeling confident, sexy, and gorgeous can have a staggering effect on how you live your life! When I did the shoot below, the woman in the photo brought along 2 friends and we had such a blast together! We all came away feeling strong and beautiful in our own skin. Both of her friends talked about wanting to do a shoot too because it was SUCH a freeing feeling. My goal is to artistically capture the beauty of women. This is not intended to be "glamour shots", nor does one have to wear skimpy outfits, the goal here is to find you own personal beautiful and make art that makes you feel proud and confident. As an added bonus we expect your significant other will appreciate them as well. ;-) We are excited to announce this new type of photo session and want to encourage you to try it. (I might add that this is a girl project only! John will not be coming along on these shoots.)

We still have time to book a couple of sessions before Valentine's day if anyone is still searching for that "perfect gift!"
